LoCo Art thanks the Knowlton Library for a wonderful collaboration.  The two organizations hosted mosaic artist Vicki Murphy and 24 Logan County students for two weeks.  The artist and students created a joyful and welcoming mural, featuring mosaics made by the students, in the entry area of the library.  Inspirational words are incorporated throughout the artwork.  The students were thankful to the library and their board for the opportunity to create a permanent public artwork.

Stress Less! with LoCO Art and Community Health and Wellness Partners

Stress Less! provided youth in grades 7 through 12 the opportunity to participate in music and art therapy classes at the Logan County Art Center next to the Holland Theatre. Weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks which started on June 21st, 2022 and ending on July 28th, 2022, students attended one hour sessions in which they learned new music and art skills to implement as coping mechanisms for mental health distress. During the hour-long arts activities, the music/art teacher was paired with a therapist who helped teach students how the artistic and musical skills they learned can positively impact their mental health through the therapeutic use of evidence-based practices. Each week the youth added a new skill to what they learned the previous week (artistically, musically and therapeutically). Ultimately, they completed the program with art projects, skills to use art and music to relieve stress, and a ukulele/ art supplies that they took home for future use.

Mills Brothers Mural Project

The mural celebrates the lives of the incredibly talented Mills Brothers, who spent many of their childhood years in Bellefontaine. Bellefontaine art educator Melanie Antram-Ingraham and her students were instrumental in researching the Mills Brothers and planting the seed for this project. LoCo Art teamed up with the Logan County Historical Center and guest artist Richard Duarte Brown to design and paint a mural that represents the many decades of the Mills Brothers’ musical gifts. Students from the Logan County schools made artistic contributions to the mural making process. Special thanks to Lowes and Sherwin Williams for assisting with supplies. The mural design process spanned nearly a year as of its dedication on August 5, 2022.
